A solar cell provides little value for our everyday living. It is only when we join solar cells together into arrays or panels that we see their benefit of delivering huge volumes of electricity.

Before you build a solar panel at home, it is best to consider first the number of solar panels that you will need. The number of solar panels for home use is determined by the power that you want to have.

For example, powering your entire house would need more solar panels than when you would only want to power a certain room. If you are unsure of the number of solar panels, you can just use online calculators over the Internet or an all-inclusive diy solar guide >>. They will give you an idea of how to build solar panels as well as how many solar panels and equipments you will need.

If you want to build a solar panel at home, there are actually several diy solar guides, accompanied by several diy solar panels, that you can find over the net.

The basic diy solar kits to use are the saw, screwdriver and drill. Aside from that, you will also need the wood glue and silicone caulk. Additionally, you will need wire strippers, wire cutters, soldering iron, and a solder for the wiring. Most of these tools can be found in your local store or hardware.

==> Click HERE For A Step-By-Step DIY Solar Panel Guide <==

The steps below teach you how to build a solar panel at home

1. Obtain Solar Panels - The first thing that you should do is to get a hold of your solar cells. As standards go, the 3×6” solar cell is enough to generate 0.5 volt and 3.5 amps. The usual preference of people is a solar panel that has an output of 18 volts. To achieve this, you will need to have 36 cells per panel. You can find this on several auctions sites over the Internet.

However, watch out for those that are graded “B” and/or panels that have lesser quality cells. You can find them usually cheaper than the A grades, but they produce less energy than the high quality ones. If at all possible, buy the cells that have been already tabbed.

2. Build a Container - Containers are needed to hold the cells of your diy solar panels. Though there are several options, the easiest thing to work on is wood. Before anything else, you will need a layout for your cells, as well as the dimensions you’d need for the box.

The suggested ones to use would be plywood for the back, and ¾ square wood for the sides. Cut additional wood and make it fit inside the box. You will also need to cut Plexiglass or lexan to use as a cover for the box. Paint them all and screw them together.

3. Wire the cells - Wire 26 cells together to form a series and achieve the 18 volts that you are aiming for. This will be easier if you’d just buy tabbed cells, and then solder all the tabs together. You may also want to solder the tabs on a diode, which will allow the power to flow in just one direction.

4. Attach the Cells - Apply silicone caulk to the middle back of each cell. Lay them all out in your layout, and glue each of them on your layout. Leave the caulk to dry and set.

5. Final Construction - Drill a hole through the bottom of the container and allow for the wires to come out. Afterwards, glue your substrate that have attached solar cells into the made container, and put your plexiglass to cover the container.

How can the full Earth4Energy manual benefit you?

Today, most people are already familiar with the solar power panels in the roofs of houses and around business areas.

However, it is also true that the majority of the population have only a vague idea of how these devices work, let alone all the forms they can possibly take.

While it is not uncommon to see panels affixed to roofs in residential neighborhoods, these are not the only solar power panels you find out there.

Solar panels can change quite a lot regarding the design, the dimensions and visible look, but at the same time all these solar power systems are generally created according to a small number of basic thematic patterns.

Click here if you prefer to watch and listen to the video form of this article on solar energy panels.

Let’s now see: How do solar panels work?

If your goal is to collect the sun’s ray power to provide energy for a house, electronic device or perhaps a complete business building, solar power panels are usually devised in such a way that they can perform the following tasks:

Collect the energy of the sun - The mission of the installed solar panels or entire arrays is to harness the sun’s photon power. Most of the times these systems are built using silicon like the needed semi-conducting medium.

Convert it to electricity - Once a solar panel absorbs the sun’s photon energy, the electrons, or negative charges, are set free from their atoms. This is what makes it possible for them to travel through the semiconductor medium to generate electricity. This electricity is converted by the solar power panels into direct current, or DC electricity. At this point, the DC electricity is sent off to an inverter to be converted to AC electricity or alternating current electricity.

Popular solar power panel arrays

As we know, there are many variations of solar power panels regarding their capacity and size. Among the more known systems we find the following:

Designs of solar cells - This is a solar system with very limited dimensions. It is designed to function exclusively with one small appliance. For instance, it is not uncommon that a portable radio that works with solar power uses only one solar cell and one single rechargeable battery. A cell is also the basic component of full solar power panel designs.

Solar panel arrangements - All those rectangular dispositions that you see in the roofs of residential areas are for the most part solar panel arrays. This implies that there are quite a lot of solar power systems that function simultaneously to supply electricity to specific systems in a home or an entire house. Note that all of these solar power panels are built with many individual solar cells.

Solar dish operations - This arrangement of solar power panels is not very common yet. Here we have a system that instead of being affixed statically to a roof can be moved in some ways. The advantage of solar dishes is that they can be rotated and adapted in order to harvest the maximum amount of sun’s rays.

Solar power panels are the fundamental element of an energy collecting system that operates on a higher-reaching scale. Each solar panel comprises many solar cells, each one of them conceived to absorb the rays of the sun so that we can use them effectively as we go on about our lives. It would be a shame that our societies continue doing as if solar power panels were not a real alternative energy system that can be added to the range of possibilities in the fascinating renewable-energy field.
